Come Now, and let us Reason Together, Saith the LORD
June 19, 2008

Pastor Ralph Green

(Sodom and Gomorrah had long since ceased to exist when God prompted the prophet to utter these words. History tells us that Isaiah was a prominent person and served during the reigns of numerous kings of Judah. Tradition tells us that he was sawn in two by Manasseh, an evil king who succeeded Hezekiah.)

Isaiah 1:10 Hear the word of the LORD, ye rulers of Sodom; give ear unto the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah. 11 To what purpose [is] the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the LORD: I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats. 12 When ye come to appear before me, who hath required this at your hand, to tread my courts? 13 Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with; [it is] iniquity, even the solemn meeting. 14 Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth: they are a trouble unto me; I am weary to bear [them]. 15 And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood. 16 Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil; 17 Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow. 18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. 19 If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land: 20 But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken [it].

THAT DAY

  1. God characterizes people with long ago judged nations in an effort to get their attention.
  2. God clearly defines all the religiosity as not aligning with His directives and at worst something that He despises
  3. He appeals to people to come away from motivation as being self gratifying to a refreshing new course that is self sacrificing
  4. Repentance because the Holy Spirit has been heard and sin clearly outlined was being rejected in that day
  5. One of the telling witnesses against them was that their "hands are full of blood"
  6. When God says "I delight not in the blood of bullocks," He is rejecting a system of indulgences where the thinking is that if I have given, then God should overlook my indiscretions

THIS DAY

  1. We live in a day when there is a great amount of religious activity
  2. Some even believe that the killing of someone with whom I disagree is a service to God
  3. Great amounts of monies are being given and some of that is greatly beneficial to mankind, while much of it goes to line the pockets of leadership and perpetuate the gathering of influence and new financial resources
  4. We need to ask ourselves if God is not sick of all our posturing that in no way aligns ourselves with His thinking "Come now and let us reason together"
  5. We decry the war in Iraq with the cost in lives and money and maybe rightly so but there exists no loud outcry from the arena of abortion where "our hands are full of blood"
  6. Why are we deaf to simple facts that we are killing a number equal daily to the entire war in Iraq?
  7. No candidate on the national scene either respects God and His judgments enough to make this his cause
  8. How can we avert further judgment from God's hand seeing we have already lost 45+ million citizens
  9. How can people that call themselves Christians not rebel against any and all leadership that leads so far astray from God
  10. We will get what we deserve, but I am afraid we will not like it Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD
  11. We decry the war in Iraq with the cost in lives and money and maybe rightly so but there exists no loud outcry from the arena of abortion where "our hands are full of blood"
  12. Why are we deaf to simple facts that we are killing a number equal daily to the entire war in Iraq?
  13. No candidate on the national scene either respects God and His judgments enough to make this his cause
  14. How can we avert further judgment from God’s hand seeing we have already lost 45+ million citizens
  15. How can people that call themselves Christians not rebel against any and all leadership that leads so far astray from God
  16. We will get what we deserve, but I am afraid we will not like it
