WE BELEIVE---the most important question that every man must consider is the one presented by Jesus in Matthew 16:15 “He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?”
It is interesting to note that Jesus is requesting an answer from His disciple Peter. Upon answering Jesus noted that Peter had not obtained this information naturally. It is a disclosure that comes from God. No man discovers the truth of God through human effort alone. We are instructed to seek God but it is a fruitless search unless God discloses Himself to us.
In accord with God’s desire to disclose Himself, He has provided the Holy Scriptures as our guide and parameter of discovery. God the Holy Spirit working in conjunction with those same scriptures leads in the discovery of The Truth we are to make use of in this life. Under the guise of “God is still speaking today” men have conjured up all types of scenarios not consistent with God’s already revealed Truth. Perhaps God is still speaking today. That is not the question. God declares Himself to be unchanging in character thus He cannot be seen as being inconsistent with previous revelation.
Some issues called the essentials of the truth will bear no room for disagreement. Such things as who He is, what He has done and how He relates to mankind fall into this category. Another category of considerations allow for more than one view because of our inability to come to absolute conclusion based upon what has been disclosed by God Himself. Such things as exactly how God is going to work out all the events between now and the end of time appear to fall into this category. We all can have a position, yet without animosity toward someone of a different persuasion.
The original consideration of answering the question concerning who Jesus is leads to the answer for all other questions. A misstep at this point is the most common error seen in the world of Theology today.
By use of the scriptures we see:
Hebrews 1:1 “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by [his] Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; 3 Who being the brightness of [his] glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;”
- God the Father is disclosing Himself thru Jesus, God the Son, in these last days
- He has already disclosed Himself thru creation, men’s consciousness, Scripture, and holy men of old.
- He continues to use those other means while providing final defining thru His Son, Jesus Christ
- Jesus is Lord of all
- Jesus participated in creation, along with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit
- By Jesus power all things consist
- Jesus has purged our sins by himself
- Carefully note here that other means do not free us nor help to free us from sin
- Excludes personal value, human achievement, activity of priest or preacher, membership in a particular organization or any other human methodology
- Opens the door to the next truth, that we can come to God exclusively as the result of God’s gifting us (grace) by the means of trust (faith or belief).
- Ephesians 2:8 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
- John 3: 16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”
- And we are kept by God’s means and not ours. Galatians 3:1 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? 2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? 3 Are ye so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?
- Jesus is seen seated on the throne reserved for God alone
WE BELIEVE---
- That God is ONE and at the same time presents Himself in three Persons
- That the Bible is the inerrant, infallible truth of God presented to mankind and stands as the guide for mankind, especially the Church
- That the Church has two aspects, one universal which can only be realized in eternity when time, place restrictions disappear and one local which is the instrument of God in today’s society
- That the practices of the local church are:
- The baptism by immersion of those who can comprehend the need of a Savior or “believer’s baptism”
- The regular practice of Holy Communion as a commemoration to the sacrifice of Jesus for our sins and as a recognition of our particular relationship to one another and to the Lord
- That the work of the church can be found in worship, discipleship, evangelism, ministry and fellowship
- That God has a plan that included creation, separation, redemption, resurrection, blessing and judgment involving this life, temporal, and one to come that is eternal.
- That sin was and is the agent of separation from God
- That other created beings exist seen as a divided group of angels, the obedient and the rebellious which includes Satan
- That God has worked with man in various ways in time, the common element being His grace
- That Jesus was born of a virgin as the result of a miraculous work of God the Hoy Spirit, that he possessed a human body which was hung upon a cross as a one time payment for all men’s sin
- That Jesus was resurrected from the grave in which they placed Him, walked among men, ascended to the Father where He sits at the present time and will one day come calling His own to Him and judging those that have not received Him as Savior
- That we are obligated to gather to study the things of God to continue to refine our lives under the leadership of the Holy Spirit that the result would be a closer walk with Jesus
WE BELIEVE THAT ALL MEN SHOULD BE PRESENTED WITH THE TRUTH OF WHO JESUS IS AND WHAT HE HAS ACCOMPLISHED FOR THEM.
WE BELIEVE THAT MEN CAN ENJOY AN ETERNITY WITH GOD THRU:
- Confession, saying the same, about God’s declaration that sin has separated them from God
- Repentance, a change of mind that produces a change of direction, in consideration of God and the impact of being outside God’s will
- By receiving the offer of salvation thru the receiving of Jesus into one’s life as Savior and Lord by simple trust in who Jesus is and again what He accomplished for them motivated by His love
WE BELIEVE THAT MEN SHOULD IMMEDIATELY UNITE WITH A LOCAL CHURCH AND CONTINUE SERVING GOD IN SUCH A PLACE
WE BELIEVE THAT IGNORING ALL THIS LEAVES A PERSON IN THE STATE OF CONDEMNATION RESULTING IN BEING ETERNALLY SEPARATED FROM GOD
